A new start for all

Dear Wacky Club parents and carers,

Welcome back to the Wacky Club! It was lovely to see many children over the summer and we’re looking forward to getting back to near normal this term. Thank you again for all your patience while we worked through the logistical challenges of working out numbers, bubbles, and meeting all the COVID-19 standards and requirements for re-opening on a regular basis. I know that many of you are making use of the Club and it’s great to be able to welcome children back again.

As you should know, we worked from the existing register of bookings (which was correct up to the Easter holiday) and to work out our bubbles. It is very important, therefore, to tell us if:

- you do not need as many days, or the same days, as your last booking period

- you no longer need after-school care (e.g. because you are working from home)

You can tell us simply by emailing info@cambridgekidsclub.com. At present we have a waiting list but this may change during the course of the term.

Wacky & CKC – a new start!

We’re very pleased that Wacky is now part of Cambridge Kids Club (CKC) who have taken on the day-to-day running of the Club. This is something that we’ve been moving towards since our 2019 AGM and throughout lockdown. I have been incredibly grateful for the support that Panash Shah, owner of CKC, has given us during a very difficult period for our staff and Committee and I’m sure that under his guidance the Wacky Club will go from strength to strength.

All current records are being moved over to CKC’s billing system and your new point of contact is info@cambridgekidsclub.com – please use that email address to get in touch with the Club. You can find more ways to contact CKC on their website, which will have a dedicated Wacky Club page shortly.

We will keep our Wacky Club website 'live' for background information about the Club and the Parent Committee. You can still contact the Committee via secretary@wackyclub.co.uk.

Kind regards,

Tamsin Chair, Wacky Club Parent Committee

We are open!

Our Summer Holiday Club will be open until 4 September, and we welcome children in full-time education (Reception to Yr6) from Shelford and surrounding area.
A few places still available most Mondays and Fridays, do get in touch with Jo and Rachel at bookings@wackyclub.co.uk if we can be of help this summer.

We are so thrilled to be back!!!

May update from the Chair

Dear Wacky Club parents,

I hope you are all keeping safe and healthy during these difficult times and managing the challenge of both home schooling and home working too! I’m sure that, like me, you’re all finding yourselves busier than ever.
The Wacky Club parent committee continues to meet to deal with ongoing business and address all the new issues that the Coronavirus has brought up.  For both we are fortunate to have invaluable advice and support from Silvija Moss (HR) and Hazel Rayment (Finance). I wanted to give you an update on some of the things that we’ve been doing:

1) Club closure and staffing
Wacky Club is closed for the foreseeable future so in late April we decided to furlough three of our permanent members of staff, leaving one to work from home. We are topping up staff salaries so that they are as financially protected as possible. The current furlough period ends in mid-May when we will review the situation. You are still able to contact the Club using the usual Wacky email – Jo will be pleased to hear from you!

2) Cambridge Kids Club hand-over
As you know, we have decided to outsource our Club to Cambridge Kids Company. Everything was going smoothly until School and Wacky were closed in mid-March. CKC has also closed the majority of its clubs and furloughed staff. That means that the timetable for handing over the business has changed but the intention remains the same, and we are speaking regularly to CKC Director, Panash Shah.

3) Provisions for Summer term
We have not taken bookings for this term so far. If the Club does re-open before the end of Summer term, then we will assume that any existing booking patterns remain the same. However, we know that even if School and the Club do re-open, your after-school care needs may not be the same as previously so we will need to check directly with you as and when that happens.

4) Holiday Club and September
At the moment we don’t know whether Wacky Club will be opening over the summer holiday period. If it does, it’s likely that it will be run by CKC. We will let you know when bookings are open and how to make them.
We have had some enquiries from parents of September 2020 Reception-class children about Wacky Club places. Jo is keeping a waiting list of all requests so that a places can be allocated in due course. Please continue to send any requests to the usual Wacky Club email so that they can be picked up by a member of staff. We will also update our website with new information so do check there now and then.

I hope very much that we can open the Wacky Club doors again soon. Until then keep safe and stay positive.

Best wishes,

TamsinChair, Wacky After-School & Holiday Club

February half term at Wacky

Children between 4 and 12, from Shelford and surrounding areas, joined us for a week full of great stories, out-of-this-world crafts and a constellation of snacks.

Shaping the future of the Wacky Club

Dear Wacky Club parents and carers,

On 29 January we had a presentation from Cambridge Kids Club (CKC), the company our committee is talking to about running the Wacky Club for us. It was very nice to have some parents join that meeting, as well as three governors representing the school and diocese. Lots of good questions were asked about CKC's approach to playwork, how they run their other clubs, and the kind of relationships that they have with those schools.

This move is all about giving the Wacky Club a strong future, benefiting both our children and the staff and allowing the committee to focus on getting a new building for the Wacky Club and Rainbow.

Those of you who couldn't make the meeting should have received the presentation by email. If you have any questions or feedback, please get in touch.

Kind regards,

Tamsin

We had a Wacky October half-term!

Monsters, Minions and Pokémons of all shapes and sizes visited Wacky for a week of outdoor hunts, finger licking bakes and very messy play.
Stay tuned for our Christmas holiday programme...

New Wacky Logo

Many of the Wacky after school children entered a competition to design a new logo for the club. The winner was chosen by our voluntary committee , it is one of our year sixs. We would like to say well done to all the children who took part and  it was very difficult decision to choose a winner. Congratulations to Elizabeth Cousins for fabulous new design. :)
